The International Symposium on "Weather Radar and Hydrology" will be held in the region of Grenoble, France, from 10-15 March 2008.

The main theme of the symposium is to promote the use of quantitative precipitation estimates and forecasts derived from weather radar technology in hydrological sciences and their applications.

This event belongs to a series of symposia originally called "Hydrological Applications of Weather Radar" that started in 1989 in Salford, UK. This first symposium was followed by the Hannover (1992), Sao Paulo (1995), San Diego (1998), Kyoto (2001) and Melbourne (2004) editions.

The symposium will be composed of two events:

  • A 3-days conference to be held from 10-12 March 2008 in the Europole Congress Center in Grenoble, France.
The conference will be mainly dedicated to invited talks, oral, poster sessions and exhibitions in a fully equipped and very accessible venue in Grenoble. The objective is to attract as many attendees as possible from the scientific, operational and stakeholder communities.

  • A 2-days workshop to be held from 13-14 March 2008 in a nearby mountainous village Autrans, Vercors mountains.
The workshop will be dedicated to thematic discussions aimed at summarizing the conference results and defining future lines of research.

Selected contributions presented at the Symposium will be published as scientific papers in a Special Issue of “Advances in Water Resources”.
